Ani Difranco
Angela Maria Ani DiFranco is an American-Canadian artist and singer. More than 20 albums were released by her. DiFranco categorizes her music as folk-rock or alternative, but it also has influences from punk, hip-hop and jazz. The widely regarded feminist icon Grammy winner Ani DiFranco is considered to be the father of the DIY movement being one of the first artists to create her own record label in 1990. DiFranco was born on 23rd September 1970, in Buffalo New York. Her parents were Elizabeth (Ross), from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as well as Dante Americo DiFranco. Her father was Italian origin as was her mother originally from Montreal. Ani's song, 32 Flavors was written by her and is performed by Ani. The song was featured on her album Not a Pretty Girl which came out in 1995. The track was included in the soundtrack of the Canadian romantic comedy Better Than Chocolate, released in 1999. DiFranco apologized in 2013 when it was reported that she would be hosting the three-day workshop on the Louisiana slave plantation. Many (including us) weren't moved by her cancellation. DiFranco issued a further apology a few days later. She is known for her Little Folksinger songs, however she has worked with several different genres and artists that range from Pete Seeger to Chuck D. Her home is New Orleans. Ani DiFranco lives with Kristen Ford. Within 14 months, Ani DiFranco was already writing her own lyrics. She performed them in cafes and bars throughout her teenage years. DiFranco, who graduated at age sixteen at the age of 16, from Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts High School, began to attend classes in Buffalo State College. Ani's customized Alvarez baritone design was conceived after many consultations that we had with Chrys Johnson who was the artist representative for Alvarez. The guitar is a System 600 guitar with solid woods, including cedar for the top with mahogany back and sides, and an ebony fretboard. The model is located in New Orleans where she lives with her husband, two children and a sidekick Lefty their long-legged dog that wanders in and out of frame while we talk. DiFranco, who is now 30 years old, acknowledges that reflecting on the past left her with mixed feelings.
